VINDICATION!
VINDICATION! HAHA! Those little winged chubby babies are putto, not cherubs! They have a name! A history (frequently used in Italian fresco art)! Putti for plural, and they were clever and purposeful creatures not really associated with angels but with Eros/Cupid and worked to facilitate profane love. Hence why you see the Putti as cupid a lot. Swwwweeeeeet. My life is now awesome. I feel a sudden calm. I need no longer rail over hate of 'cherubs' just people's silly habits of associating baby-like things with innocence and thus angels, misnaming them, and then putting their erroneous art all around me. I can be calm in my acceptance that I am more informed, and they are foolish masses. MWAHAHAAHA!

They're not even really babies, but 'little men' of indeterminate gender. And it's always Putto or Putti, which once meant 'child' but now just means these dudes. Never the feminine form, because apparently it's slang for slut.

Which... etymologically would lead one to wonder if they assumed that female matchmakers were just sluts?

Yes... yes I do have issues. Why do you ask?
